It's Back-to-School Time! Learn Tips on How to Bring Ease to Your Home Throughout the School Year

It's that time of year again; Back to School time!  A time in which kids look forward to seeing their friends and growing their brains but simultaneously, it's a time that often brings chaos, stress, and disorder to the household.  Don't fret!  This blog post contains a lot of great ideas on how to bring organization, structure, and tranquility to the home.

 Organize the Children's Closets

It's not doubt that school-day mornings can consist of chaos, frustration, and anxiety when it comes to trying to get everyone up, dressed, fed, and ready to leave for school.  Organizing the children's closets can help eliminate the frustration of not finding what you are looking for.  It's also a great idea to spend some time every Sunday to figure out what outfits the child is going to wear each day of the week and label them with the day.

Use Storage Containers to Help Bring Organization

Buy 7 storage container drawers and stack them on top of one another.  Then, label each drawer with a day of the school week.  Inside each drawer, you can keep homework, projects, permission slips, and anything else specific to that day so that the child and you will both know what to do for that day.

Create a Recognition Wall

Show your child recognition of their achievements, awards, good grades, art work, and their dreams and visions by creating a special place on a wall.  Use picture frames, magnetic boards, a chalk board, clips, and anything else to help customize your special recognition wall.

Get Ready for Getting Ready in the Morning

There are numerous things that need to be done in the morning by everyone in order to get out of the door and to school on time.  One of those things include having the children brush their teeth in a timely fashion.  You will hear every excuse in the books on why they haven't brushed their teeth yet; i can't find MY toothbrush, i don't like THAT flavor of toothpaste, etc.  To make mornings a bit easier, use mason jars to organize each child's belongings; toothbrush, favorite toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, and more.  Let them make name labels for their jars.  Put stickers with the amount of time that they should take to brush their teeth and what time it should be completed by.

Where Are My Shoes?!

This is something that every parent probably hears in the morning when getting ready for school.  Every minute counts when trying to get your children off to school so there isn't time to search the entire house for their shoes.  Have a basket  or trunk near the front door where they will put their shoes in as soon as they get home.  This way, they will know exactly where their shoes are, and so will you!

 Checklists Make Everything Easier

When you can, create checklists to help keep everyone on the same page.  Checklist ideas are: chores, homework, daily tasks, and anything else that is specific to your household.

A Successful Homework Area

It can often be difficult to get your child to sit down and do their homework.  To make that task a bit easier, have a comfortable and quiet place for your child to be able to do their homework.  Supply that table or spot with all of the supplies and items that your child might need to complete their homework.

Organize School Supplies

Among a busy household, it can be difficult to keep everything in order and find what you need.  Use storage bins, racks, baskets, or anything else that you find best for your home to store school supplies like writing utensils, erasers, notebooks, calculators, rulers, as well as art supplies including paints, markers, crayons, color pencils, stencils, scissors, tape, colored paper, and more.  Having your child know just where everything is will also help motivate them to complete their homework and school projects.

 Children Need Structure

Children are known to rely on structure to get through the day.  That can often be hard to do as a parent when you have plenty going on all of the time.  Make it easy on yourself by getting creative with ways to bring structure to your child's daily routine and the household overall.  Let children know what to expect every day such as what time they need to leave for school, what time they need to do their homework, when play time is, when snack time is, when they have to take a bath, when dinner time is, and what time they need to be in bed.

Quiet Time and Reading Corner

Busy households can be a distraction for a child trying to read or is having a bad day and is being cranky.  Create a quite and comfortable place in the home where your child knows that s/he can sit quietly and read or have quiet time to themselves.

Knowing Where Everything Is

The first thing that children want to do as soon as they get home from school is to throw their backpacks, jackets, hats, boots, and shoes on the floor.  This can lead to misplaced items when you are trying to get ready in the morning.  Have a place near the front or back door of your home where your children know where to hang their backpacks, coats, hats, and scarves, and where to place their boots or shoes.

Use a Large Calendar

Use a large calendar to organize your family's monthly plans.  This will allow your children to know what to expect for the week and following day, when their scheduled activities are, and what else to expect.  This will also help you as a parent tremendously!

Laundry, Laundry, and More Laundry!

Every parent knows how easily laundry can pile up throughout the school week and how frustrating it is when what you or your child is looking for is in the dirty pile.  By organizing your laundry room, you can bring ease to the laundry process.

Every Child Needs Their Rest

It's undeniable that rest is essential for every child to function properly during school.  Create a comfortable and cozy bedroom that your child loves and will sleep easily in.  Some great ideas that help bring comfort and tranquility to a child's room are: natural sounds music, humidifiers, oil diffusers with calming scents like lavender and chamomile, night lights, and comfy bedding.
